WANT TO VOLUNTEER AT PEIRCE? One of the things that makes Peirce a great school is the work of volunteers that support our kids’ school. Friends of Peirce (FOP) and Peirce Service Organization (PSO) work hand-in-hand to provide this support.
Friends of Peirce (FOP) is responsible for fundraising activities throughout the year. You can serve on a committee, participate or help plan events, lend marketing and connection skills and more. If you have skills and interest in raising the money to support our arts partnerships as well as other student-focused programs, FOP wants to talk to you!
Peirce Service Organization (PSO) helps coordinate and activate the parent community's volunteer efforts. If you are interested in being involved in your child's classroom by being a room Representatives, are interested in creating awesome community events, show Teacher Appreciation and more, then the PSO wants you!.
Informal / Classroom Volunteering. Teachers also need chaperones for field trips and volunteers to help with classroom events. It is fun and low-key. PSO (through the Room Reps) helps coordinate these opportunities. NOTE: Current CPS guidance does not allow parent volunteers in the school building so this is on hold for now.
In order to start the process, please fill out this interest form and we will reach out to you and get you on your way to volunteering. ------ HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER? To be in the school building and/or interacting with the kids, Chicago Public Schools requires some paperwork to be done. There are two levels of volunteer:
Level 2 Volunteers can be in the building and work with the kids if/when supervised by CPS or Peirce representatives. Examples would be working an in-classroom event, helping with an in-building after school event, or assisting with administrative duties. (working less than 10 hours a week)
Level 1 Volunteers can do all the above PLUS they are allowed to work with kids without supervision. This would include being a chaperone on a field trip (going to the zoo, museum, etc) where kids are broken into groups and assigned to a parent or be an activity leader in activities that are unsupervised by a CPS or Peirce official.
We recommend becoming a Level 1 volunteer if you are able. ------ HERE ARE THE STEPS TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER Please note: It is a CPS requirement that you are in one of these two levels to volunteer.
Step 1: Complete the volunteer form for CPS, found here. This form is necessary for CPS to verify you have students in the system and that they are at the school.
Step 2: Bring an government issued ID to Sally Suarez in the Peirce staff office or send a picture of one. If you do not do this step, the process will not move forward. Sally needs to verify in the system, otherwise CPS will not send the follow up until she verifies.
FOR LEVEL II, THIS IS WHERE THE PROCESS ENDS.
FOR LEVEL I, YOU MUST ALSO DO THE FOLLOWING.
Step 3: Review the Email from CPS to find links and information for fingerprinting, background check and TB test. For fingerprinting, you can find the form here. This form can be taken to any Accurate Biometrics location. You should know we are also trying to organize a group fingerprinting at Peirce on one day.
For the TB test, please use this form here. You can get these tests completed at MercyWorks locations. Please note, this is a $20 TB test.
Step 4: Email copies of both the fingerprints and TB test to CPS The sooner they receive these forms, the faster you can be processed. We are hearing that the fingerprints can take 2-5 weeks to process. You can email these forms to [email protected].
Overview of Volunteering Types Start here to determine what volunteer application process (Level I or Level II) you need to work with. Peirce administration, Friends of Peirce and Peirce Service Organization recommend that all volunteers complete the Level I process.
CPS Volunteer Application CPS requires you fill out this application for Level I or Level II. Friends of Peirce, Peirce Service Organization and Peirce Administration encourage parents to complete the Level I volunteering tier. NOTE: Once you fill this out, this is not the final step. Please read below under the section titled ‘Level I & Level II Application Process’ to see the steps.
